One New Man

"For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace..." Ephesians 2:14&15 (ESV)

What a joyous occasion as worshippers from several different congregations gathered at Living Waters Fellowship in Windsor Locks and celebrated the freedom and unity that are ours in Jesus Christ. Under the leadership of Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church, the assembled group was privileged to share in a heavenly worship experience.
Those gathered were called to worship by Minister Betty Arnold who led the service with grace and joy. Pastor Kevin Flannery of the Windsor Locks Congregational Church led in our prayer of Invocation and the scripture was read by Pastor Dwight Dean from Faith Community Church.

The music of the afternoon was powerful and effective in leading us into the presence of the Lord. I have posted video of some of the music and preaching on my Facebook page. The preacher for the afternoon was Pastor Jeff Powell of the Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church and he was introduced by Pastor John Bradley of the New Life Assembly of God.

Following the message in which Pastor Powell challenged us to unhitch our wagons of prejudice and strife that hold us back and settle into the camp of unity and peace that can be found only in the love of God in Christ. As the service concluded we were led in a time of prayer for racial reconciliation by Pastor and Mrs. Earl Imswiller. (I regret I have no pictures of this very special time but my camera's memory card was filled with the video of the songs and preaching.) The group adjourned to a time of food and fellowship that was provided for us by the folks at Windsor Locks Congregational Church.

I wonder what difference this service will make among those of different races in our communities. I pray it will make our Lord very happy. It is my desire that the same unity that exists between the pastors who gather for prayer on Friday mornings will characterize the congregations we lead, and eventually change the communities where we live.
