So Quickly

"For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes."

James 4:14b (ESV)

James is right when he reminds us of the brevity of life, but it is sometimes very difficult to put into proper perspective. I got to wondering about this when we celebrated Shawn's 16th birthday recently. It is hard to believe he has been a part of our family for 16 years! It has been an event filled 16 years. I still remember when he fell out of his high chair and broke his collarbone when we lived in Dover, NH. I remember the time he cut his leg at the pool in Dowling Park and required many stitches to close the wound. We took him to the Suwannee County hospital for those stitches and while we were there they brought in our son David who had broken his wrist playing soccer!
Shawn began his soccer career in Friendship, ME where he played for 6 years and his sixth year they won the area league championship. Since we have been in Connecticut Shawn has continued to play soccer and has now taken up tennis which he played for the high school this past spring.

In Connecticut he has continued to visit the ER, again getting stitches in his leg following an injury, this time at his youth group. He has some good friends he has made in the youth group and 3 of them helped him celebrate birthday number 16. It was a late night of video games and delivery pizza, a sleep-over followed by breakfast of steak and eggs, doughnuts and homemade biscuits. Then it was off for three games of laser tag before calling it a day.

Here are the guys having breakfast at 11:40 AM, yes, that's A-1 sauce for breakfast

Let's play some Laser Tag! These guys captured 4 out of the top 5 scores!

Just so you can see, Shawn cleans up pretty well. Here he is with Lucas Peters, both ushers at Shawn's cousin's wedding in Lenox, MA.

I wonder what God has in store for Shawn as he grows and matures? The time sure goes by quickly.
