We heard a knock on our door and we were greeted by David, Marianne and Sarah, ready to take us out to breakfast at.....McDonalds! A short walk and we were dining on Egg McMuffins, hash browns and coffee or juice. It wasn't bad, almost as greasy and tasty as home!
After breakfast, David had negotiated with a driver to take us to see the Great Wall, but ti was an hour and a half outside of Beijing and was going to be costly. Since we all couldn't fit into one cab, David and Marianne had decided Marianne would stay at the hotel with Sarah while David took us to see the Great Wall. This was disappointing since we wanted to spend as much time with Sarah as possible. But the arrangements had been made and it was going to be too expensive to take two cabs.
What a delight when our driver arrived in a van in which we could all go to see the Great Wall! Just another way God has so wonderfully arranged for this trip to happen. Following a long, and oftentimes, frightening ride, we were pleased to arrive at the Great Wall of China.
After our visit on the Great Wall, which included a "fun" ride up a cable car and ride down the hill on a toboggan for some of us, we enjoyed lunch at Subway. Lunch was followed by shopping for Barb and Marianne and rest for Dwight, Shawn, David and Sarah. At about 4:30pm we again hopped on the subway and headed out to a nice restaurant to enjoy some roast duck, the city specialty. What a delight and treat that meal was.
After dinner, off we went again on the subway, this time to see the Chinese acrobats as a theatre in Beijing. This troupe is the one where young people train to become members of the world traveling troupe, but we thoroughly enjoyed there show even though it was a struggle for us to stay awake because of our jet-lag.
