Heading Home

It was to be the day we began our journey back to Connecticut, so we wanted to make the most of our last few hours with the kids in Kunming. We decided on a brunch at a restaurant that caters to Westerners, so after our playtime with Sarah, (below is picture of Shawn holding his niece Sarah) and our final packing, we walked to Salvador's Coffee House where we had a brunch of eggs, home fries, waffles, fruit, juice and coffee or hot chocolate. After a nice meal and pleasant visit, we made our way back to the apartment to prepare for our trip to the airport to catch our 3:00pm flight to Beijing. As we walked back to the apartment we again marvelled at the fact that we were actually walking the streets in China, where our son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter live!

At about 1:00pm we caught cabs to go to the airport where we said our goodbyes and then went through security to await our flight to Beijing. It was very hard to leave David, Marianne and Sarah behind, since we don't expect to see them again until the summer of 2010. We went to our gate area to await our flight's departure. Shawn still wasn't feeling very well and spent his time at the gate area spread out on the seats trying to recover.

We got to Beijing at about 7:30pm and caught the shuttle to the hotel. We checked into our hotel and enjoyed a good night's rest before beginning the 21 hour flight home to Connecticut at noon the next day.
