Today is Tax Day back in the states but here in China it was day to celebrate my recovery from Chairman Moa's revenge. With the help of some Imodium AD I was doing much better and it was time for some of us to get out and about. While David had his language class from 8 to 10, Marianne decided to take the rest of us out for some breakfast and sightseeing. But before we walked to breakfast, we had to spend some time playing with Sarah Grace who is a very bright girl in the mornings when she first gets up. Here she was this morning. When we were ready, we walked to a restaurant that caters to westerners for breakfast. The Restaurant was the Prague Cafe and it was wonderful. Here we are ordering our breakfast and then there is a picture of what Barb had for breakfast. She loved it!After a wonderful breakfast we headed off to well known park in Kunming called Green Lake Park. The sign tells some of the story of its history. We walked around the many buildings and waterways and saw large numbers of people doing their Tai Chi group exercises. When we left the park we headed back to the apartment by way of a local market and stopped long enough to take a few pictures. It was a really amazing experience. After visiting the market we continued our walk back to the apartment and Marianne took us by the campus where they work. This university, that is a teachers college, is not far from their apartment and appeared like a typical college campus as we walked through. Here is the library.
By the time we made it back to the apartment it was lunchtime and we had an old-fashioned lunch of pb&j sandwiches with chips and soda. After lunch we rested until we went to a company prayer meeting at another couple's apartment. There we were able to pray with and for the staff who serve in this country. Then it was back to David and Marianne's apartment long enough to get ready to go to another couple's apartment for supper (did I mention David and Marianne live in a fourth floor walk up apartment!) There we ate, are you ready for this, take out Mexican food! We got to meet some staff who had worked with David four years ago and now have another ministry in another part of China. They were in town for a visit.
After supper, David and another fellow led a discipleship group of 6 guys who are all upperclassmen of the university where David works. It was thrilling to watch David lead the Bible study in their native Chinese language. This trip has already been filled with so many amazing experiences that as I go to bed tonight I can't help but wonder what tomorrow will bring.
